With life a great challenge at him while he was just three months old, Deepak Sahni, CEO, Dev Bhoomi Group never lost hope and always kept dreaming big and working hard with determination and belief in himself. Keeping his will strong while being on wheels, he says one can achieve the world. In conversation with Nikita Agarwal, he talks about his journey, and how he aspires to help other multi-abled people to lead a better life.
Q. Tell us about yourself and your journey
When I was three months old, I had developed a tumor on my spinal cord. I was taken to PGI Chandigarh, and the doctors said that the chances of my survival were minimal and therefore, my parents decided to take me back to Solan. My parents then decided to take me to a local vaid who gave them an Aushadhi and asked them to put it on my spinal cord. He assured them that the tumor would go away if they did so. It did happen as he said but it hampered my nervous system and due to the nervous breakdown, I lost control of my lower limb thereafter. That is how I became paraplegic with a 100% locomotor disability.
My life definitely was different than the others in my family, academically I was bright and in my 12th standard I was a national topper in economics with 99% and I then chose to go ahead with Chartered Accountancy, and I cleared my intermediate exam along with which I was also pursuing my B. Com from Himachal Pradesh University which was followed by an MBA in marketing and finance.
Q. tell us about Dev Bhoomi Group and your professional journey?
While I was studying, I also joined my family business of flour mills division, which goes by the name of Deepak Agro Industries. We now have three flour mills that produce 30,000 Quintals of Wheat Flour. We have developed various brands, namely, Bharat Mata, Purn Aadhaar, King brand, & Ready Bakes. Our product line has multiple products; Atta, Maida, Besan, Sooji, Dalila, Poha, Soya Chunks, Vermicelli, Pasta, Macaroni, Salt, Maize Flour, Wheat Bran and Maize Bran. I completely handle the Agro Industries, Pharma industries, Digital Solutions Unit, and Transport divisions of the group. Dev Bhoomi Group is in multiple diversified groups that have its presence in various fields; Real Estate, Agro, Food Processing, Retail, Leasing & Commercial, Transport, and more. Where in under transport division, Dev Bhoomi Logistics, we have a self-owned fleet size of 15 trucks and under Rate Contract, we employ around 40 trucks to meet out our logistics requirement. This is our family business which was started by my father, Sh. Pawan Sahni and uncles; Sh. Girish Sahni & Sh. Manoj Sahni, initially it was started with a flour mill and retail and then we ventured into different sectors including real estate, where Dev Bhoomi Realty was our major achievement. We have completed 10 residential projects and 4 commercial projects. We have delivered more than 1,000 flats. We’ve recently forayed into digital solutions wherein we, at Dev Bhoomi Digital Sources, have set up a 400 seater BPO leased out to clients like TCS for the purpose of online examinations and we provide support services to the brands like Swiggy, Zomato, Make My Trip, Oyo Rooms, & Quattro through leasing.
