With an aim to lead by example, Studio IAAD takes care of the environment and sustainability with all their projects. Started in the year 2007, Rachna Agarwal, Founder and Design Ideator, Studio IAAD derives her inspiration for design from the beauty of nature. In conversation with Urban Melange she talks about her journey and how she came this far.
Q. When did you know that you wanted to pursue architecture as a profession? Tell us about your journey till now.
There are some things meant to happen – and I believe studying architecture happened by chance. My first choice was to take up mechanical engineering as my father’s work inspired me. But my mom wished for me to pursue a career as a doctor. Even though I’ve always had a keen sense of aesthetics and an interest in design since childhood, studying architecture never really crossed my mind; my father encouraged me to pursue architecture, considering my inclination towards design. Once I got through the TVB School of Habitat Studies, there was no going back. Destiny has its ways, and I guess my choices aligned with it.
Q. Where does your passion for architecture and interiors come from?
I’m an aesthete and enjoy beauty in any form. Nature’s inherent beauty and balance are a constant source of inspiration for me. The same philosophy applies to the spaces we create at the studio. The goal is to approach architecture and interior design sustainably and holistically.
Q. What inspired you to start with Studio IAAD? What is the USP of your brand?
I was awarded my master’s degree in architecture from the TVB School of Habitat Studies in Delhi. Later, I received training in Earth Architecture at Auroville under the direction of Satprem Maini. My desire to spearhead projects and lead by example fueled my desire to become an entrepreneur after working for over 12 years at successful architecture firms and design practices. I then established a practice, Studio IAAD (It’s All About Design), in 2007. Since then, we’ve followed a responsible, sensitive, and engaging process that allows us to create aesthetically and functionally superior spaces. We also firmly believe in forming long-term relationships with all of our clients.
