Changing Lives with ‘Sisterhood’

Patiala Reads

A book club that is anchored on their sisterhood, their minds synched in curiosity to learn and unlearn; Patiala Reads is here to waver your perspective about not just the reading culture but also the intellect of us North Indian women.

  1. Tell us about your book club. What was the idea behind starting it at the first place?

A bunch of friends, fond of reading and learning new ideologies sat together one day and decided to come up with an official book club. This is when “Patiala reads” happened and changed our lives in ways more than one. Our female-only book club is dedicated to transforming mindsets, learning, and unlearning together to make our reading experience worthwhile.

  • As the owner of a book club which are some of your favourite books and why?

We sternly believe that your perception towards a book and author changes with age and the mental state one is in at that particular time.

It was in the beginning that each member had a different genre of interest, but over a period of time, we started to amalgamate our interests into that of other members.

Having said that, Elif Shafak, Nadia Hashimi, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Paulo Coelho are a few of my personal favorites. We prefer to read books shortlisted in booker prize, light reads, and those oriented towards female topics and issues.
