‘Spirit of Chandigarh – Quaint but Refreshed’

Motif is a place where fashion becomes a symphony of culture and craftsmanship. In an exclusive conversation, Uday Mahajan, the creative force behind this luxury men’s boutique, reveals the inspirations, design philosophy, and the personalized touch that sets Motif apart. In our conversation with him, he talks about his journey, his brand, where each garment is a testament to his unwavering commitment to timeless style.

What inspired you to open a luxury men’s boutique?

As a third-generation clothier, my introduction to the amalgamation of design and culture was an inevitable love match. It was, however, my time with the tailors of Saville Row that really brought my excitement to dress the Motif Man to become my reality.

I love the idea of a person wearing a bespoke Motif, walking down the street, feeling good in their skin and loving the vibe they’re exuding.

That’s what I know my pieces do: make the person feel suave and confident. That continues to be my inspiration year-on-year for Motif.

How do you curate a unique collection that seamlessly blends traditional festive styles with contemporary urban trends?

My day-to-day life inspires me. India is the perfect muse for a designer. The colours, the traditional embroidery, the karigari, the weaves, just the sheer availability of the varied fabrics for us to play with makes my collection unique for all.

Each piece is carefully designed by ensuring that our culture finds a significant spot in its creation and represents a lexicon of fashion while keeping true to the timelessness of the right fit.
