Music as Healing — Nisha’s Healing Baithaks

For Nisha Luthra, healing began as a deeply personal journey of understanding emotions and the self. Today, through House of Happiness and Chetna Synthesis, she creates spaces where music, movement, breath and theatre come together. Her Baithaks offer something increasingly rare: a space to feel, connect and simply be.

What inspired you to create House of Happiness and its unique approach to well-being?

They say charity begins at home. For me, healing did too. I wanted to understand myself, my emotions and inner landscape, which led me to study psychodrama and explore the healing impact of performing arts. What began personally became a way of working with others. House of Happiness grew from the belief that a safe space allows people to breathe, feel, express and heal.

How do Breath, Movement, Psychodrama and Music work together in Chetna Synthesis?

Chetna Synthesis brings together four pillars: breath, movement, psychodrama and theatre techniques, and music. Each opens a different door. Sometimes the body knows before the mind; sometimes a breath shifts what words cannot, while a character or story offers distance from our own lives. Music reaches places language cannot. There is no single way to heal, and this allows each person to find their own doorway.

What makes music such a powerful tool for emotional healing and self-expression?

Music has always moved me. Sounds of nature, raags, alaaps, instruments, Gurbani, Kabir’s dohas, folk music and our cultural sounds connect us to something deeply rooted within us. Music can hold an emotion without asking us to explain it. It can make us cry, soften or energise us, or simply allow us to sit with what we feel.
