Vandana Gupta (Founder) and Shradha Sachdeva (Co-Founder) of Silver Tulips have been making women look beautiful for the last 22 years. In conversation with Urban Melange, they tell us about how they are balancing their personal and professional life in the most perfect way. Q. What is Silver Tulips all about?
Silver tulips have been a fashion house for the last 22 years. My daughters and I run it from my house in Amritsar. We specialize in custom-made Indian and Indo-Western clothing for women. Our intricate embroideries and strong sewing skills have been our forte. We have done the rarest of pieces where we used certified silver carved into Laxmi n Ganesha idols to adorn our attires. Recently we have been awarded the FLO LEADHER awards as the best designer in the Casual Indian Wear category by FICCI Flo Amritsar.
Q. How it all started? What was the vision behind it?
Vandana Gupta: Silver Tulips began as a silver lining for me when my husband passed away very young, and I had three kids to raise all by myself. Even though I had always dreamt of starting my own clothing label one day, I’d never imagined it would be during such circumstances. I basically began my fashion career by exhibiting intricately designed and hand-embroidered suits and saris purchased from Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Lucknow in my drawing-room at my home in Amritsar. When those outfits sold out instantly, I decided to hire a stitcher, and some embroidering to bring my own creative ideas to reality.
Frankly, there was no vision behind it. Circumstances created this label and all I did was put in hard work and dedication. When my daughters grew up, they started helping me implement new ideas and change with time. Our brand now has a bona fide social media presence. We aspire to be one of the biggest fashion labels in the city of Amritsar. I began my career in fashion design simply because I knew I had an eye for clothing, what was in trend, and was always up to date with fashion trends from a very young age.
