It is not just your stomach that makes you feel hungry, but your brain is one of the hungriest organs in your body. The brain is the first organ to extract nutrients from the food that you eat. Therefore, to help your children do better in school, and improve his/her concentration and memory, you must focus on improving their diet with foods that help your brain grow better and function faster. There are a number of nutrients that your brain requires. Here are some examples of food items that are nutritious and good for your brain.
- Eggs
Most of us looking for a healthy diet avoid eating the egg yolk and only concentrate on the egg white part as it is known to have a lot of protein. But it is also very well known that the yolk part contains choline, which is a major component that helps in memory development. Therefore, do not forget the egg yolk while making scrambled eggs or omelets for your little one. A large egg with yolk generally contains around 125mg of choline which is just half of what a child of 4 to 8 years requires.
- Peanuts and Peanut Butter
If your child doesn’t fancy eating raw peanuts, then try feeding him peanut butter, but make sure it is hygienically made and has natural ingredients. Peanuts are a good source of Vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant that helps in protecting your nervous membranes. It also contains a nutrient known as thiamin, which helps the brain and the nervous system to gather glucose from your body which is then used as energy for its working. So, let your child enjoy a peanut butter sandwich or just add peanuts to their favorite salad.
- Whole Grains
These help in giving the constant supply of glucose that the brain wants. As glucose is the powerhouse of energy, it helps the brain function faster and more accurately. Whole grains are super-rich in glucose and the fiber helps in regulating the release of glucose in the body. Another vitamin that these whole grains are rich in is B-Vitamins which help in nourishing the brain and makes your nervous system healthy. Some of the easiest examples of including this in your diet is by opting for whole-grain bread, tortillas, and low-fat popcorn.
