Urvashi Sahni of Kaleidoscope Education believes effective guidance begins with understanding the child beyond marks. She discusses personalised counselling, early skill development, authentic profiles and why finding the right-fit university matters more than chasing rankings.
What inspired you to build Kaleidoscope Education?
The idea came from working closely with students and families and realising that, despite having access to so much information, many students were more confused about their future. With countless choices in subjects, careers, universities and countries, students are often expected to make important decisions without understanding themselves first. I felt there was a need for personalised, holistic guidance. Kaleidoscope Education is built on the belief that every child has unique strengths, interests and potential, and our role is to help them discover these and find opportunities that genuinely fit them.
How do you help students discover their strengths and the right academic pathway?
The most important thing is to listen to the student. We look beyond marks to understand what excites them, what subjects they enjoy, what problems they like solving and what they are curious about. The right pathway is not about following popular choices; it is where a student’s strengths, interests and aspirations come together.
What role does early skill development play in college applications?
A very important one. Strong college applications develop gradually over several years, not in Class 12. Early exploration allows students to discover what they genuinely enjoy and develop skills deeply, whether in writing, research, coding, public speaking, entrepreneurship, art or community work. The goal should not be collecting certificates. Colleges recognise when profiles are simply checklists.
