‘Be comfortable in your own skin’

Adding that brilliance and that grace to a bride’s look, Babi Grewal, the lady behind Babi’s designer wear believes that a bride should live up to her imagination on her special day, rather than being influenced by what people have to say. In conversation with Nikita Agarwal, she talks about size inclusivity, and the weaves that are making a come-back.

As a fashion designer, how do you define your role in the society?

It’s about influencing the people about looks. Whereas I feel that people should look beyond the appearance and have a knack to carry whatever they’re wearing, whether its something old from their wardrobe or something latest, till they don’t have a personality to carry it, it’s not going to work. So, One has to work with their mental confidence and physical appearance to carry a look.

What is your first memory of fashion?

I was never a fashion conscious person till the time I was in my college. So, my first thought of fashion would be when NIFT came along and we started hearing about fashion designers and started looking at fashion shows. Then Ftv came along with their fashion shows and that is when we thought about making it possible in India.
