Monogram is an all-encompassing furniture design studio, with design being the focus word. The ethos or central idea of the brand is to not create mere pieces of furniture but bring together superior craftsmanship and incredible style to re-imagine interior spaces with expression and creativity. Mehar Virk, Founder, Monogram talks about their process and their journey.
What inspired you to start Monogram?
From the get-go, I’ve had a creative bent of mind. I graduated from SRCC and MBA in marketing from MDI Gurgaon and then worked as a customer strategy consultant at Deloitte USI. My experiences in my educational journey enhanced my problem-solving skills and gave me global exposure.
I had always been aware of what’s happening in the architecture & interior design industry as my parents have been a part of it for more than 20 years now. I realized there is a huge gap in the furniture market. When selecting furniture for their homes, clients often picked up pieces randomly from a number of different stores / studios without often considering important aspects like the proportions, needs & aesthetics of the space and overall cohesiveness of different pieces. That’s where I wanted to step in and bridge the gap by becoming a studio that transforms spaces into thoughtfully curated sanctuaries rather than just producing functional furniture pieces. We at Monogram plan all the elements to complement each other in order to make sure that you end up with a carefully curated collection of furniture items that become the focal points in your home, rather than being drowned out by the many years of accumulated stuff. From minimalist simplicity for contemporary spaces to signature styles inspired by classic design, we aim to bring to the forefront the human side of design by curating spaces that are a reflection of YOU.
My father has been into construction in the tricity for a long time now. What he brings to the table is a strong grasp of the local market and technical know-how accumulated throughout his years of experience. I, on the other hand, come with a strong marketing background and an exposure that will help me in truly building a “brand” that goes beyond the tricity. And of course, my inherent love for design is a big plus.
What makes your brand different from the rest in the industry?
First and foremost is the fact that we have all things furniture under one roof. We do not outsource any aspect of design or production. Whether it’s carpentry, paint, quilting or carving and cane weaving, everything is done in-house. This ensures we maintain superior quality and exquisite craftsmanship.
