Q.1 How do you describe what a hernia is? And what kind of surgeries are done for hernia?

A hernia is a weakness or an opening in the abdominal wall through which abdominal contents like intestine or fat may come out. For a patient, it may be a swelling associated with pain and discomfort at various common sites like the belly button, or the groin area or other sites. Also, it may occur after a surgery which we commonly refer to as incisional hernia. Hernias can be repaired in various ways – open surgeries, laparoscopic or minimal access surgeries. The type of surgery will depend upon your type of hernia, surgeon’s expertise and location of hernia and previous surgery.
