Education forms the foundation of a society, and the Punjab government is determined to strengthen this foundation with its transformative initiative—the Schools of Eminence. Launched to reimagine the existing government education system, this program is a leap towards academic excellence, holistic development, and equal opportunities for students across the state.
At its core, the Schools of Eminence project is about upgrading select government senior secondary schools for students from grades 9 to 12. In the first phase, 117 schools across all 23 districts have been revamped to meet world-class standards. These schools are equipped with modern infrastructure, including state-of-the-art science laboratories, well-stocked libraries, and technology-enabled classrooms. The idea is simple yet powerful: give students an environment where they can dream big and achieve bigger.
Holistic Education and Inclusivity
What sets these schools apart is their holistic approach to education. Beyond academics, the Schools of Eminence focus on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and life skills. Special emphasis is placed on extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, and cultural programs. These elements ensure students grow into well-rounded individuals ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century.
One of the most inspiring aspects of this initiative is its inclusivity. The Schools of Eminence welcome students from various social and economic backgrounds, breaking barriers that often hinder access to quality education. Admission is merit-based, with a centralized aptitude test conducted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). This ensures that talented students, regardless of their financial situation, can benefit from this transformative program.
