‘Our individuality makes us different’

Every time she comes up with a design, it has a unique personality of its own. Competing against herself every day, she tries to bring out the personality of her clients in every outfit. Drawing inspiration from her mother, Deepinder Kaur started with Maryaada and her journey in the fashion industry.

Tell us about your background and what sparked your interest in the fashion industry?

I am a Law graduate and got my master’s degree in Criminal Law last year. I always felt driven towards the fashion industry. I mean how could you not! I started with helping my mom, with her business, running a boutique, experimenting with my own designs whenever given the opportunity, while at university. The response I got gave me all the confidence that I have in my business today.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion to me is something that resonates with individual personality. It needs to be YOU. It is how you define yourself to others. I believe a person can dress up in Monday blues and Sunday sunshines. It is never a constant. You wear how you feel. So, I wanted to play a little part in everyone’s everyday dress up.

What has been the biggest challenge for you till now?

Everything is online. While it is an easy way to market your business, it takes up a lot of time and energy to be updated with the ever-changing nuaunces. I am a creator, not on social media but on Fabrics. So, learning and adapting the new tactics of social media has been a challenge. But I will get there!
