With a strong drive to develop her skills as a graphic designer, Ishita Singla is on a journey to fulfill her goals and aspirations. In conversation with Urban Melange, she talks about her passion for art and designing and her creative process.
How did you first get interested in graphic design, and what drew you to this field?
Art has been a passion of mine since childhood, and I’ve always been drawn to painting and drawing. I knew from an early age that I wanted to pursue a career in the creative arts, and as I honed my skills, my passion for it only grew stronger. Creating art gives me a deep sense of fulfilment that permeates every aspect of my life. During my time in boarding school, I found myself far more interested in the art room than in my studies. I would spend my free periods there, painting and conversing with my teachers about my work. As my interest in art intensified, I became increasingly curious about the digital side of the medium. In college, I decided to explore this passion further and started working with software to create art conceptually. The more I experimented with different mediums, the more exhilarating the process became.
What is your creative process like when working on a new project?
The creative process that I follow has no set path, but it involves a great deal of research and exploration before presenting it to the client. My first step is to understand the requirements of the project and conduct thorough research on various aspects like brand history, vision, audience, and other related factors. This helps me develop concepts and ideas that are in line with the project goals. Next, I begin looking for references to gain inspiration and spark my creativity. As I brainstorm and develop several ideas, I weigh the pros and cons of each one. Once I have a few designs ready, I present them to the client and take their feedback into consideration.
