With a unique professional journey Dr. Bandan Jot Kaur, Nutrition and Health Consultant, Former Drug Safety Scientist, Dentist brings a prevention-first perspective to healthcare. Her work is driven by a simple belief: health should be built proactively, not pursued only after illness appears. In this conversation, she shares the experiences that shaped her approach to wellness and why prevention remains the most powerful form of healthcare.
What inspired you to transition from dentistry to nutrition and wellness?
My journey into nutrition and wellness began in two very different worlds—dentistry and pharmacovigilance. As a dentist, I understood disease from a clinical perspective. However, my experience as a Drug Safety Scientist transformed how I viewed healthcare.
For years, I reviewed adverse event reports, drug interactions, and long-term medication outcomes from patients around the world. What struck me most was a recurring pattern: one chronic condition often led to another, and over time, patients found themselves managing multiple diseases and medications.
Watching this repeatedly made me question whether enough attention was being given to prevention. That realization led me to leave my corporate career and formally study nutrition and lifestyle medicine. Today, I help people build health proactively rather than waiting for disease to dictate their future.
How did your experience as a Drug Safety Scientist shape your approach to health?
Working in drug safety taught me that healthcare should not begin at diagnosis. While medications are often life-saving and essential, I became increasingly aware of the importance of prevention.
The cases I reviewed reinforced my belief that nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and healthy habits should form the foundation of healthcare. My focus today is helping people improve these lifestyle factors before chronic disease takes hold, especially those with a family history of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, heart disease, or high cholesterol.
