When did it click that this was the right profession for you? Describe the dynamics of your career so far?
“We have been in the clothing business for 15 years. Out of which, 12 yrs have been dedicated to designing and creating. I was fascinated by the western silhouettes and styles but my first love was always the grand and magnificent Indian heritage. Rich colours and fabrics with intricate embroidery were what intrigued me the most. It is my long-held belief that introducing a modern cut to ethnic wear makes it more accessible and acceptable for the new age women who want to be stylish but does not want to let go of her roots,” says Ritika, the owner of fashion label, Akriti.
The co-owner Shakun adds, “Born in the Royal City of Patiala, I have grown up witnessing the rich culture, colors, and vibrancy of our heritage of this city. I have always admired the beauty and grace with which our Sardarnis and Maharanis would dress up. It was my dream to create something that would accentuate their beauty and grace. When I started my clothing business I was intrigued by the craftsmanship of our artisans. I always envisioned a blend of the modern and traditional outfit.”
“We both had a vision of bringing together the modern outfits with the royal heritage of Punjab, and that’s how Akriti came into being,” concludes Ritika.
