Wings, Work and the Makhija Bond

For Deepak Makhija and his daughter Sakshi Makhija, success is not just about professional milestones, but also about values, balance and the quiet strength of family support. While Deepak has built an inspiring career with Emaar India, Sakshi is carving her own identity in marketing and brand activations.

Deepak, what has been the most defining moment of your journey with Emaar India?
One of the most defining moments of my journey as Business Head at Emaar India was leading a project right from land acquisition and layout approvals to creating a landmark launch. Seeing customers stand in queues from 6 AM to invest in plots worth ₹4.5 crore was a reflection of the trust we had built. Watching the product grow nearly five times in value over time made the journey even more rewarding, as it reinforced customer confidence and established the project as a strong investment success story.

Sakshi, what inspired you to build a career in marketing and brand activations?
I have always been passionate about marketing because I believe it gives a brand its identity and creates an emotional connection with consumers. Products alone do not create recall — the experience and storytelling around them do. Working with Coca-Cola, Kingfisher and Heineken gave me hands-on exposure to trade marketing and brand activations. In industries like beverages and liquor, we often say “cold is sold,” but it is marketing that brings that idea alive through campaigns, visibility and consumer experiences.

Deepak, how does it feel seeing your daughter create her own identity in the corporate world?
It feels extremely fulfilling and emotional to see Sakshi create her own identity. More than success, I feel proud seeing her passion, dedication and confidence towards her work. Watching her grow independently and build her own path is truly a special feeling for me as a father.

Sakshi, what is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your father?
Professionally, the biggest lesson I have learned from my father is consistency, discipline and showing up every single day with the same passion. Even after 28–29 years in the industry, he is still as proactive and driven as I remember from my childhood. Personally, I admire how beautifully he balanced work and family life. No matter how demanding work was, he never let us feel that pressure at home.
