Arenco Group: Pioneering Dubai’s Luxury Hospitality

The Arenco Group has been a trailblazer in Dubai’s hospitality industry, launching the renowned GOLDEN SANDS brand and establishing a significant presence in the hotel apartment sector. From opening the iconic Hilton Dubai Jumeirah in 2000 to managing a diverse portfolio of 20 hotels with top international chains, Arenco’s journey is marked by innovation, resilience, and success. In conversation with Urban Melange, Vijay Raghavan, Director, Golden Sands Hotels Co. (LLC) talks about his inspiration and his experiences.

What inspired you to enter the hospitality industry? Tell us about your journey.

The Arenco Group was a pioneer in the development of the hospitality industry in Dubai, being an early entrant into the hotel apartment sector. With its own brand, GOLDEN SANDS, it is now well-established as one of the largest in the segment. Arenco’s entry into the hotel sector began in 2000 with the opening of its iconic hotel, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah. Over the past 25 years, the number of hotels in the group has grown consistently to approximately 20 hotels, managed by various international chains including Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Accor, and Taj. The journey has been wonderful, filled with both challenges and successes.

How do you think the travel and tourism industry has evolved in recent years, especially post-pandemic?

The travel industry has been evolving for decades, but since COVID-19, it has changed significantly. The aspirations of tourists have skyrocketed, and hotel owners and operators are in constant search of fresh ideas and concepts to satisfy travelers, especially Gen X and Z.
