Can you reflect on the changes and advancements you have witnessed in women’s healthcare over the years?
Over the years, women’s healthcare has improved significantly in India and globally. There has been increased awareness, improved reproductive health services and expanded research on women specific medical conditions. Access to information, preventive care and a focus on personalized treatment plans have also evolved, promoting overall well-being for women. However, challenges like healthcare disparities and societal norms still impact women health highlighting the ongoing need for comprehensive and equitable healthcare solutions. If we look at the Indian healthcare system, at the time of India’s independence, longevity was around 22-25 years. However, now a woman is expected to live until 70-80 years provided, she maintains a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, maternal mortality rates have declined and women’s empowerment have improved
What role do you believe healthcare professionals play in promoting women’s overall well-being?
Healthcare professionals have a huge role to play in promoting women’s overall well-being because they are often the first point of contact for health problems. This is the opportunity for counseling regarding women’s health beginning from “womb to tomb”.
