Could you share with us the story behind your journey and what led you to specialize in cancer treatment?
Coming from a family of doctors, my path to becoming a cancer specialist was shaped by my deep-rooted desire to serve as a physician since my childhood. After completing my MBBS at the government medical college in Patiala, I pursued my MD at Daya Anand Medical College in Ludhiana. However, there was an undeniable inner calling that compelled me to dedicate myself to the field of oncology.
How do lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise influence cancer prevention and management?
The causes of cancer are multifaceted, with lifestyle factors playing a predominant role. Diet, for instance, can be a contributing factor due to the presence of chemicals in certain foods. Additionally, factors such as stress, obesity, and the quality of food we consume have an impact. In today’s world, the consumption of processed food has increased significantly. To counteract this, it is essential to aim for organic food. In fact, I have personally embarked on an organic farming initiative, owning a four-acre land where over 50 families are involved. By growing our own vegetables and avoiding the tampering and processing of food, we ensure the distribution of organic produce among all the families.
