Protecting hearts, one attack at a time

Dr H.K. Bali, Chairman, Cardiac Sciences at Paras Hospitala Panchkula opens up about his career and the right choices for a healthy heart

Medical innovation is dependent on the perseverance and dedication of doctors. Dr H.K. Bali is one such practitioner, who is a renowned name in the medical world and has been at the forefront of Cardiology ever since he started using the scalpel. For over three decades, Dr Bali has been serving the needs of patients when it comes to cardiovascular ailments. An unwavering proponent for healthier lifestyle choices, Dr Bali clearly states, “An unhealthy lifestyle is the main cause behind the sharp increase in heart problems these days. Individuals live a high-stress life with larger materialistic goals, there is pressure from social media and no peace of mind, whilst the atmosphere is polluted with harmful elements and the food we eat is also unhealthy.”

 Dr Bali’s illustrious career has seen many milestones, some of which are national firsts. He was the first operator in India to perform a Carotid artery stenting in 1997. His innovative contribution towards stent-supported angioplasties in pulseless diseases (Takayusu arteries) has brought him global recognition and is now the standard method of treatment for the disease. Having performed more than 15,000 coronary angioplasties and 1,250 artery stentings as the primary operator, Dr Bali holds a special interest in peripheral vascular interventions, coronary interventions and devices in heart failures. He has published papers in national and international cardiology journals more than 100 times. At Paras Hospitals Panchkula, he specializes in coronary artery diseases, biventricular pacemakers, treating of aortic dissections, aortic stenting, and peripheral arterial angioplasty amongst a host of other areas of expertise. Dr Bali is also credited with introducing Trans Cutaneous Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVI) in Upper North Indian region.
