The Power of Resilience – The Skipping Sikh’s Journey

In times of adversity, acts of kindness and resilience shine brightly, illuminating the human spirit. Such is the story of Rajinder Singh, a humble man with a lion’s heart, and his daughter, Minreet, a budding journalist with a passion for storytelling. Together, they embarked on a journey during the lockdown that not only transformed their lives but also inspired countless others around the world. In conversation with Urban Melange, Rajinder and Minreet share their experiences, from the initial spark of inspiration to the ripple effect of positivity that ensued.

What inspired you to start skipping during lockdown?

I have always skipped but in lockdown I wanted to do something different and help others and my daughter said let’s start the skipping challenge and raise money for the NHS.

How did you feel when your daughter, Minreet, decided to share your story with the world?

I felt shy, as I’m a humble person and don’t like to show off. I was touched that it inspired so many people.

Rajinder, what does being a Sikh mean to you, and how does it influence your approach to life?

It means everything to me. As a Sikh I’m a learner and learning every day. I am learning from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib every day. As a Singh this means lion and it means we are not afraid of anyone except God, we are fighters. We don’t give up, we serve others, we are selfless. Being a Sikh I apply the Sikh principles to my life every day. I pray early hours of the morning at Amrit vela, and this is how I start my day. I serve others, I want to help others. I try to be kind and giving. I want to live for others. I want to do good.
