Vishal Garg, Director of Secretarial and Administration at SVGOI, has transformed the institution from within—first as a student and now as a leader. In conversation with Urban Melange, he shares his journey, challenges, and vision for SVGOI, focusing on digitalization, entrepreneurship, and innovation to shape a future-ready educational ecosystem.
Can you share your journey with SVGOI College?
My journey with SVGOI began in 2006 when I joined the institute as a B.Tech student in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). As the son of Mr. Ashwani Garg, Hon’ble Chairman of SVGOI, I had the unique opportunity to closely observe campus life and the challenges faced by both students and the administration. During my time as a student, I experienced first-hand the basic issues in campus infrastructure and operations, giving me a deep understanding of the areas that required improvement.
After completing my engineering degree, I pursued higher studies in management in Pune, which broadened my perspective and equipped me with essential skills. In 2013, I returned to SVGOI as the Director of Secretarial and Administration. At that time, the institute was facing a financial crisis and operational challenges, which I saw as an opportunity to bring meaningful change. Over the years, I have worked tirelessly to enhance various aspects of the campus, from infrastructure to digitalization. It has been a rewarding journey to witness SVGOI’s transformation into a progressive, modern, and innovative educational institution.
How has SVGOI evolved under your leadership?
Since taking on the role of Director in 2013, my focus has been on modernizing the campus and ensuring its sustainability. One of my first initiatives was the development of an ERP system to streamline administrative processes, improve efficiency, and foster transparency. We also built a state-of-the-art auditorium to facilitate events and activities that enhance student learning and engagement. Establishing modern laboratories was another key initiative, ensuring students have access to cutting-edge resources for hands-on learning.
Digitalization has been at the core of our evolution. By integrating technology into education, we have created a seamless digital ecosystem that enhances the academic experience for both students and faculty. Despite the initial challenges, we have successfully transformed SVGOI into a thriving educational hub with advanced infrastructure, a robust support system, and a reputation for innovation.
