Creating Safer, Inclusive, and Compliant Workplaces Everywhere

Shazia K Singh, the force behind POSH Laws India, is on a mission to create safer workplaces by ensuring compliance with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. With extensive legal expertise, she has worked with government and private organizations to implement policies, raise awareness, and promote gender-neutral mechanisms for workplace safety.

What inspired you to start POSH Laws India?
The increasing participation of women in the workforce has brought forth unique workplace challenges that require sensitive and gender-neutral mechanisms. The POSH Act provides a structured framework for addressing workplace harassment, and the first step was to create awareness about its provisions. Armed with a law degree and practical experience, I understood the Act’s nuances and took it upon myself to drive a mindset shift at workplaces. I aimed to establish proper mechanisms, policies, and standard operating procedures to address incidents of sexual harassment effectively.

What challenges did you face while establishing this initiative?
Even after a decade of the POSH Act, workplace harassment has evolved with social media and virtual workspaces, introducing psychological and emotional abuse. Many organizations form Internal Committees but lack proper training, leading to ineffective handling of cases. Ensuring compliance, confidentiality, and trust in redressal mechanisms remains a major challenge.
