Crafting Stories in Gold and  Gemstones

For Archana Aggarwal, jewellery is more than adornment—it’s a vessel of memory, emotion, and legacy. As the creative force behind Timeless Jewellery, she has spent over two decades reimagining heirloom traditions for a modern world, blending storytelling, technical mastery, and a deeply personal connection to every piece she creates.

What inspired you to start your journey in jewellery design?
Jewellery has always been my language of storytelling. As a child, I’d watch my grandmother’s heirloom pieces, each with its own history, and marvel at how they carried emotions across generations. One particular jadau necklace, passed down through three generations, became my muse. It wasn’t just adornment, it was legacy. That’s when I knew I wanted to create pieces that don’t just adorn but speak.

How did your education in Gemology shape your design approach?

Studying gemology was transformative—it taught me to listen to stones. Beyond their beauty, each gem has a personality: how it catches light, its durability, even its flaws. This knowledge lets me design with the stone, not just around it. For example, a Kashmir sapphire’s velvety blue demands a setting that lets it glow, while a rose-cut diamond shines best in minimalist designs. Gemology turned me into a storyteller, where the gem is the protagonist.

What does “timeless jewellery” mean to you?
Timelessness is when a piece feels as relevant today as it will in 50 years. It isn’t about resisting change, it’s about creating pieces that feel alive across generations. Think of a Victorian-era pendant still worn today because its craftsmanship and symbolism transcend trends. For me, it’s achieved through three pillars that make it heirloom-worthy: emotional resonance, technical excellence, and versatility.
