A Home Rooted in Heritage, Designed for Today
Spread across 12,000 square feet in Bengaluru, Coromandel Court is a home that feels deeply Indian without feeling conventionally traditional. Designed for a couple with demanding global careers and two young children, the residence brings together their South Indian roots, love for travel, and a growing collection of art and objects gathered from across India.
The vision was brought to life by Meera Pyarelal, Founder and Creative Director, Temple Town, who approached the home as a reflection of the family rather than simply a showcase of design.
The central idea was “Heirloom Modernism”—a balance between the warmth of the past and the ease of contemporary living. Antique timber, indigenous crafts and classical Indian art are placed within a modern, open-plan layout. The intention was simple: to create a home that could become a future heirloom while still working effortlessly for a young family today.
A Dialogue Between Old and New
The home makes a memorable first impression with a semi-precious stone-inlaid foyer, soaring 20-foot ceilings and a dramatic three-foot-deep sunken living room. Designed exactly as the client imagined it, the conversation pit forms the social heart of the home, with gatherings flowing naturally towards the outdoor bar and gazebo.
Across the residence, South Indian influences meet the family’s love for Kalighats, miniature paintings, Pichwai artworks and travel-collected artefacts. A Chennai-inspired embroidered guest bedroom brings tradition into hospitality, while a gate-legged teakwood dining table paired with Ritu Kumar fabrics gives India’s textile heritage a contemporary setting. The bold blue kitchen, meanwhile, is sleek, functional and designed for the rhythm of a busy family.
