For Aryaman Jain, CEO of Innovative Design Studio, leadership was not a title she stepped into overnight. Coming from communications rather than design, she found her way into the industry by understanding how spaces make people feel. Her entrepreneurial journey has since been shaped by instinct, decisive action and learning to trust herself.
What drew you to building a career and business in the design world?
Honestly, it wasn’t a straight line. I came into this business from the communications side, not the design side. So, my first instinct with lighting was never, “How does this fixture work?” It was, “How does this room make someone feel when the lights come on?” That emotional connection to spaces is exactly what drew me into the world of design.
When did you first start seeing yourself as a leader rather than just a creative professional?
It wasn’t one clean moment. It was built up through a string of decisions I had to make for the business. With creative work, you can always retreat to, “It’s my taste, take it or leave it.” Leadership is different. It means standing behind a decision on positioning or a brand partnership when getting it wrong could cost you something—and being the person who answers for that decision either way.
What has entrepreneurship taught you about trusting your own instincts?
It has taught me that a quick decision beats a perfect one almost every time. Waiting for certainty is simply a slower way of deciding by default. I would rather make a move, see what happens and correct my course than sit on something for too long and allow the market to make the decision for me.
