For Meera Pyarelal, Founder and Creative Director of Temple Town, building a brand has never been about waiting for the perfect moment. Her journey is rooted in craftsmanship, authenticity and the belief that meaningful businesses are built gradually. Balancing creativity with discipline, she continues to honour tradition while building for the future.
What made you take the leap from an idea to building Temple Town?
The thought was always to start small and build brick by brick. A business doesn’t need a massive showroom, huge capital or an established name from day one. What matters more is belief in the idea and consistency. Temple Town grew from that approach, with a focus on quality, craftsmanship and authenticity. Instead of waiting for the perfect time or scale, I decided to begin and allow the brand to find its way naturally. When the foundation is strong and the work speaks for itself, growth follows.
What does being a woman leading a business mean to you personally?
Being a woman in a traditional sector often means learning to claim your space and stand firmly behind your work. Earning a seat at the table may sometimes take more resolve, but that also builds confidence. Knowing the process inside out, paying attention to detail and refusing to lower standards have been important throughout my journey. Leadership isn’t about waiting for permission or constantly establishing authority. It is about being professional, prepared and consistent. Eventually, good work speaks louder than anything else.
Was there ever a moment when you doubted yourself as a leader?
Doubt is part of building anything from the ground up. Supply delays, operational problems, costs or scepticism can make you question a decision. What helps is going back to the fundamentals: know the process, understand the craft and trust why you began. Confidence doesn’t always mean having every answer. Sometimes it means staying with a decision, learning from what goes wrong and changing course when necessary. Difficult days are inevitable, but they teach you to become a stronger and more practical leader.
