Bridging Cultures, Building Change

Nikorn Sachdev has long been recognised as a strong and visible voice within Thailand’s Indian community. Deeply rooted in social work and cultural advocacy, he has consistently worked toward building bridges between communities while encouraging greater representation and participation. Now, as he steps into active politics, his focus remains unchanged—service, unity, and meaningful change. In conversation with Urban Melange, Nikorn speaks about his journey, his vision for Thai Indians, and his decision to join the Kla Tham Party.

Tell us about your journey and what led you to pursue a career in politics.

Social work has always been a part of my life. When I became a director of the India-Thai Association, I realised that many Indian committees and societies were functioning independently, without a common platform. We brought them together under one umbrella, which became the Indian Association of Thailand (IAT). That experience made me realise the importance of collective representation. Eventually, I felt that the Indian community also needed a stronger voice within the government, and that thought naturally led me towards politics.

What is your vision for the Indian Association of Thailand?

My vision is for the IAT to support all Indian societies and cultural groups in Thailand in a meaningful way. I want it to be a platform that preserves and promotes Indian culture while also engaging with Thai society. It’s important that Thai people see Indians not only as business contributors but also as a community with deep cultural, social, and religious roots. I want them to understand our traditions and celebrate our festivals alongside us.
