Sanjay Tandon, a Chartered Accountant, Member of the National Executive of the BJP, Co-Incharge of BJP Himachal Pradesh, and Member of the Governing Council of the WPL, BCCI, and his wife Priya Tandon, a homemaker, writer, and volunteer with Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini, share a partnership rooted in values, service, and quiet strength. In conversation with Urban Melange, they reflect on marriage, purpose, family, and meaningful work with warmth and honesty.
How do you define partnership beyond marriage?
Marriage is sanctimonious; marital partnership is about complementing each other to make life meaningful. This too without it becoming boring and stereotype. Keeping the zing in life is important, to keep the relationship fresh. Partnership is a ship; if it sails, we sail together. If it sinks, we sink together!
What values keep you grounded amid public and professional responsibilities?
My father often said, “Kursi ko salaam hota hai.” Till we can help people, they will come to us … nothing is permanent. And I keep reminding myself, ‘Karte ho tum Kanhayia, mera naam ho raha hai!’
How do you support each other during challenging phases of life?
Supporting each other comes naturally, because not supporting is not even an option. As our children have grown and our parents have moved on to the higher realms, we are more giving and forgiving towards each other, knowing that we have to be there for each other like never before. We’ve also learnt to smoothen our sharp edges.
