Balancing Academia and Modelling perfectly

He is pursuing two careers which require high amounts of patience. Madhav Setia, a model and an academic says one must learn to have a solid attention span and give it their all, only then can one succeed. In conversation with Nikita Agarwal, he talks about his journey and his vision.

How did you end up pursuing modelling while being an academic in London?

When I was busy getting my Master’s at the London School of Economics, a close friend of mine was interning with a leading Indian fashion designer who was to showcase his collection in London. My friend suggested my name since the designer was looking for “tall” models. I benefit from being 6’2” and I thought to myself – “Why not give this a shot. It’s going to be a new experience after all!” I never knew it would end up becoming a side passion of mine!

Tell us about your journey till now and your vision?

I come from a family of academics who greatly value education. As such, I never thought I would enter show business. As a product of King’s College London and the illustrious London School of Economics – a student of Law, Finance and History – I had a well planned path for myself. But you can never plan in life for you never know where opportunities might come from! My first fashion show instilled in me a passion that I didn’t even know I had! After that, modelling for fashion labels and at big runway shows for a plethora of designers ignited a new fire in me. I would be an academic in the day and find myself doing photo shoots in the evening! In all honesty, I love this set-up – one that mixes and matches academia, work, and modelling! My vision is to pursue my career with show business as a cherry on the top.
