Navigating Thailand’s Tourism – TAT Director’s Insights

A dedicated tourism professional with over three decades of experience at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Siriges-a-nong Trirattanasongpol, Director, TAT’s passion for travel and cultural exchange has driven her journey, shaping Thailand’s tourism landscape through strategic initiatives and promoting the country’s diverse attractions worldwide.

What inspired you to pursue a career in tourism, and how has your journey been with TAT over the past three decades?

I was inspired to pursue a career in tourism by my love for traveling and exploring new cultures. However, as I delved deeper into the field, I realized the immense potential of tourism in driving a country’s development and fostering cultural understanding. Over the past three decades with TAT, I have had the privilege of working in various departments and overseas offices, including Vietnam, South Korea, and India. Each assignment has enriched my understanding of tourism dynamics and allowed me to contribute to promoting Thailand as a premier travel destination. From developing tourism services to leading marketing initiatives, my journey with TAT has been fulfilling and rewarding, allowing me to play a part in shaping Thailand’s tourism landscape and enhancing cross-cultural exchanges.

Can you share some key initiatives you’ve undertaken to promote Thailand as a premier destination for business travellers?

We have a separate entity, the Thailand Convention Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), which promotes Thailand as a premier destination for business travelers. At TAT, we support TCEB in various ways and have introduced a “Corporate & Incentive Scheme” for incentive groups and “Celebrations with Care” for weddings. Under the Corporate & Incentive Scheme, travel agents in metro cities (in North & East India) receive incentives for groups over certain sizes. Additionally, travel agents in Tier 2 cities (in North & East India) receive an additional amount compared to those in metro cities. This initiative aims to incentivize travel agents and promote Thailand as an attractive destination for corporate events and incentive trips.
