Here’s how sixteen year old Amar Mohindra is contributing his bit towards battling this unprecedented pandemic!
“Everything is generated through your own will power,” aptly stated American author Ray Bradbury and the truly inspiring story of sixteen year old Amar Mohindra stands testament to the same.
A Design and Technology student of Genesis Global School in Noida, Amar is the Founder of Janata Shield – an initiative that produces a face shield for essential service workers like doctors, guards, grocery store workers, etc who may have limited Personal protective equipment.
What is the story behind laying the foundation stone of Janata Shields? What motivated you to take the plunge?
I felt a sense of helplessness at not being able to do anything meaningful during the lockdown. I started researching what individuals were doing globally and discovered 3D printed PPE products being endorsed by Healthcare professionals internationally. I came across some open-source designs validated by NHS, UK and NIH, US which I thought to adapt to use with my home 3D printer. The first lot of Janata Shields went to my Condo security and maintenance team. Their delight and comfort at using these motivated me to take this initiative forward in a larger way.
My classmate Aditya joined in and this helped us gain momentum. Thereafter, support from the media and local community has helped us spread the word and make it a pan-India initiative.
