How to Manage your Acne-prone Scalp

Shahnaz Husain

Most people are concerned about clogged and enlarged pores on the face because we know that clogged pores can lead to blackheads and acne. But, what about the clogged pores on the scalp? The scalp also has large pores that get clogged. Actually, the scalp is rich in oil glands and the pores can get blocked with hardened oil. This can lead to dandruff and even eruptions, like boils and acne. In fact, such a condition can also trigger off hair loss.

Like the skin, the scalp also needs to be cleansed and exfoliated. A healthy scalp grows healthy hair, so exfoliation of the scalp helps in detoxification and healthy hair growth. According to an expert, “A scalp detox is a great way to help remove buildup, oils, and dead skin cells.” If you’re suffering from dandruff, itching, and scalp eruptions, exfoliation with hair packs will help.

If your hair and scalp are oily and prone to acne, you need to wash the hair at least three times a week. Washing the hair is not harmful. But, the harsh products that you use can disrupt the normal acid-alkaline balance of the scalp, leading to dandruff and acne. If you wash your hair frequently, use a mild herbal shampoo. Use less shampoo. Take one teaspoon shampoo for long hair and half a teaspoon for short hair. Dilute it with a little water and then apply. Rinse your hair well with water, to get rid of all soapy residues and loosened flakes.
